The stock blade with the Andis clippers we purchased was a 10. We have stock coat and long stock coat german shepherds. Whilst the 10 is fine for small jobs, for larger jobs such as trimming belly coat for summer, it got hot. The No 7 accomplished this easily and didn't get as hot. It cut well, especially with coarser hair than the 10. If we had known, we would have purchased this cutter when we purchased our Andis 2 speed clippers
