I bought this product as theEbay header advertisement quoted it was for RVs and camping. I purchased the mini ampfibian for storage purposes when traveling in the van. It’s purpose is to convert the power supply from 15 AMP to 10 AMP. When I received the converter, the details on the box basically said it had an IP rating of 33 when an IP rating of 55 is needed for it to safely endure wet weather when camping. It does not include a waterproof casing. The mid range ampfibian is needed for outdoors when camping not the mini as this is only good for indoors use .

Good unit for undercover out of weather to legally connect a 15A load (ie caravan) to a 10A mains. Of course can be used for other loads where the legal connection of a load exceeding the 10A rating of a standard power point can be used. One thing that is missing should be some type of cover available (at additional cost?) to prevent accidental operation of the circuit breaker also a neon light could be provided on the body to easily see if unit is on.

I needed this mainly for use in the garage for 15amp plugs on welders etc, which it is fine for... but they seem to be promoting this for use on caravans to plug their 15A plug into, so you can use your standard power points at home. Be very careful with this, it's quite exposed on the breaker side, there is no cover, and if it gets damp or wet, ie outdoors with rain or even dew, you could be in for a nasty shock. So if it's for a caravan - forget it, go for a different model that has a cover over the circuit breaker.

Excellent product. Well made and simple to use. More than anything else it provides protection against drawing too high a current when attaching a RV or caravan to a regular household power outlet. While this is not the norm, it is necessary if keeping a fridge running, for example, whilst at home or keeping batteries charged. This alone is unlikely to draw too heavy a current, but inadvertent turning on of other more power-hungry devices like a stove could draw greater than 10 amps. The device obviates the need to (illegally) home-make a cord to go between a household powerpoint and a RV etc. inlet. The inclusion of the RCD in the Ampfibian adds a further level of protection, preventing personal electric shock in the RV. The only drawback to the device is that it is not waterproof, but given that the 10amp end of the device is likely to be indoors, this is not a significant issue. FACTORY SECOND? There was no evidence of this at all.Read full review
