No time set. Just set number of hours between watering and number of minutes each water. Two rotary knobs each having a pointer. How do you know when it will come on you may ask. Easy, the timer will start the first water, the same number of hours you have set for number of hours between watering. Let's say you set 12 hours between watering and to water for 30 minutes. You set it at 3PM, at 3AM the timer will water for 30 minutes, followed by 3PM running for 30 minutes, giving you two 30 minute waterings every 24 hours at 3AM & 3PM. So whatever time of the day you first start it is the only time setting you do. They have worked out the delay between watering always divides into 24 hours, 12, 8, 6, 4, etc. Alkaline batteries (two AAA) last well over a year when set to water twice a day. I have also had them last a year when set to three times daily. The only setting I bother changing is the duration of each watering time which doesn't alter the battery drain as the main power drain is the mechanical turning of the ball valve. The time keeping is on a chip so uses similar power to your watch, bugger all. I have not used more frequent delay times than 4 hours between waters, which is 6 times a day, and only used this for 3 months over summer on a timer that then gets turned back to twice daily and this timer still gets more than a year out of 1 set of batteries. I used mostly Energiser named batteries, but once used a pair of cheap generic batteries and got just over 12 months out of them. I hope this help but my communication skills are somewhat lacking, sorry reader!!Read full review

Mostly this is good and does what it says. It's easy to see up to water ar set intervals. Fine when we go away The problem I have is if I want to just water a 1 off time say now for 20 minutes, you can't do that. I have to reset everything and then just set it to sort of, " off" and let the water flow until I go out and manually turn it off. I now have to reset everything to my automatic timer again. The instructions don't say anything about a method of adding a one off watering.

I have purchased this item before and have purchased again as it is extremely easy to use. It is replacing a very complicated timer. I also found the price very competitive. Highly recommend

It performs fine. One note is you will need to get tap adapter from inch to three quarters to fit most taps.. It should come with one but does not
