With some practice and reading the manual this drum machine is easy to use and the sounds are high quality. At this stage I'm muting the bass and just using the pre-set drum patterns which work with timings I use beyond 4/4 including 3/4, 6/8 and 9/8. The presets are diverse and I doubt I'll have much need to make my own patterns or songs. 2 switch pedals are just about a must - especially for live performance. One for on/off and the other for fill/pattern (i.e. this pattern changes from A to a similar style B and back again) so it gives a very authentic varied sound as would a live drummer. Selecting the new pattern and tempo between songs or tunes is an esimple process - just working a couple of controls. Our trio has just downsized to duo and the Alesis SR18 will give us plenty to fill up our sound on selected songs and tunes (and keep our timing tight); and I'll also use it for solo gigs.Read full review
