This product was purchased to replace an existing Friedland door chime which has worked well for over 50 years but which we are finding increasingly hard to hear. Unfortunately, this unit is nowhere near as loud as the previous one and we have had to remove it and remain with the previous one. These units are claimed to have a sound output of 80db but I can state without doubt that the sound level is nowhere near what they claim. I am finding it very hard to find a suitable replacement for our old unit but this is certainly not it. They might be okay in a small home but even in a moderately sized house there will be many times where you won't be able to hear it. These units can be powered by a transformer or batteries. Our system uses a transformer and easily meets the minimum voltage requirements. Running it on batteries means that it is operating on 2 volts less than what the standard transformer provides which degrades its performance even more. Read full review
