we recently moved into a new home with a theatre room and had no tv or dvd player, we descided to go with a cheap online option. the main thing i wanted for this price was to have a dvd player unlocked to any region. the remote isnt exactly user friendly but the player itself we Cant fault. There is additional volume on the remote for movies that need more sound. HDMI lead gives a single lead to TV so very easy to set up. i would purchase again for any general area in the home. this DVD is really good value for money

While playing DVDs, often a reasonably loud spinning noise is heard and then the playing pauses. Occasionally, after a short while, playing resumes, but more often, it gets stuck or it jumps to somewhere in the next chapter. To overcome the stuck pause, one needs to turn off the DVD and turn it on again. This turning on and off works sometimes. If not, one has to start from the menu, select the chapter and uses the fast forward function to the pause point. It is a nuisance.

The player was purchased because it was good value and had an HDMI output. It works fine and the picture quality is fine as you would expect from HDMI. When watching a DVD over a couple of days a nice feature is that it starts up exactly where you had previously paused viewing.

If you are after a flash and fancy machine with all the latest bells and whistles, you're looking at the wrong machine. BUT... if you are after a simple machine that will play any region reliably or a "cheap" unit for the kids room, you can't find better. my DVD library is varied, with discs from all regions and custom burned discs also from every region. The laser DVD player has recognised and played every format of disc I've thrown at it. The loading tray is slow and noisy to open and close, and initial reading of the disc is the slowest I've ever struck, but the screen message warns you about that. But once it is loaded and read it is virtually unstoppable. So far I've found it to be more forgiving and reliable than machines 40 times the price....yes, I do mean 40 times. I've got multiple machines in use, some purchased specifically to run specific region discs.....and this cheap laser is more versatile and reliable at reading the discs. I like it enough that I've bought them for each family member and a couple as spares for later. BEWARE the "MEMORY" function in the setup menu, if you have it switched on, it will drive you mad with how long it remembers where you last stopped that disc. Even after powering off or removing the disc. When it goes back in it resumes from where you stopped. It will drive you mad if you don't know about it.....lol So good luck, enjoy your purchase, you can't go wrong with it.Read full review
