Getting that guitar distortion pedal needs some decisions, so having seen the online user reviews and videos, this Super Overdrive SD-1 was the one I chose. It suits my R&B style, and provides a reliable and consistent sound with the durability found only in a Boss product. It is simple to operate, and a doddle to set up the way you like the sound. The 3 dials do as they say. I set the amount of distortion I want, tweak the tone to match the bypass in colour, and then adjust the level so the distorted tone just cuts above the bypass in volume. Don't waste time with batteries. I gave up replacing them years ago. Just buy the easy to get multi-plugs for your board. No hum issues. Besides its ease of use, it really is about three big things: tone, tone and tone. I have been using valve amp distortion for years, so I want a distortion and tone that does not insult my ears. This baby does it. There are a myriad other similar pedals on the market, so why not a different one? I don't want a fuzz box. This is NOT a fuzz box. I want warm and even distortion, this one gives it. I want reliability. This is a Boss - need I say more? I want something I can afford. Patience, e-Bay, and presto! Got it! Finally, I hate hum and sputter, and so many pedals add noise. Not my Boss! Oh, I forgot - I like older products that have stood the test of time and road. They never go wrong if they have done the distance. Often reviews finish with 'would I buy it again?' Well I have no expectation that I shall need to. This is what I want, and I do not expect it to die any time soon. However, if you like crunch, and quality sound, then this is a very fine product. And if somebody nicked it... well yes, I would be seeking out another one. Quickly.Read full review
This is a fantastic overdrive. Makes me sound so good. Perfect addition to my pedalboard

Great value overdrive, similar to tube screemer but with less of the mid hump. More dynamic and open sounding than a TS at half the price.

I am with the pedal.

I see the asset of this pedal being its sound at the lower gain end, you can have subtle chorus type sounds and then hit the string slightly harder to get the grind. Higher up the pedal buzzes far too much for it to be viable but then i prefer a full on distortion for that anyway.
