The grip makes the camera so much more comfortable to hold when shooting in portrait mode. It does take a little to get used to the change but well worth it. It does make the camera a bit more bulky and not so easy to put in my camera bag but not something that causes me a great problem. It does mean that my L bracket will no longer fit but the grip is easy to take off the camera that switching from the grip to the L bracket for tripod mounting is fairly pain free, maybe one day I will design and make myself a new L bracket that fits with the grip in place, with my longer lenses this is not a problem as the tripod mount is on the lens.
