Sangean PR-D4 FM/AM Portable Radio with GEN SANGEAN WARR

Love my Sangean
For the second time I chose to purchase the Sangean radio. Portability, ease of use, simple tuning and nice to look at. We get a lot of power outages, but even in the middle of a dark night I can re-tune by touch and find my stations. What more could you ask?

Mankell's legacy
Whoever adapted the Inspector Wallander stories for the small screen has wonderfully captured Henning Mankell's mood and intention. And whoever is responsible for shooting the scenes has done likewise in bringing those bleak scenes to life. However, so much of Mankell's detailed writing has been necessarily omitted due to time limitations. If you are already an afficionado of Henning Mankell, you will enjoy reliving the stories on screen. If not, the films will make you want to buy the books.

A great loss to literature
Since Henning Mankell died last year I have made a point of working my way through all his works. What an amazing man he was, not only for his sense of mood and intimacy with the bleak Swedish landscape and the brazen beauty that is Africa, but for his captivating sense of story and place. His characters are real, and the more I read the deeper my relationship with them grows. Reading the books is far more satisfying than watching the films, but having said that, one needs to do both to get the full breadth of this man's reach. The audio books are equally as satisfying but also disappointing when they are narrated by an American reader.
