A story about Jim Craig and 18 year old who has recently lost his father in trying to capture 'the colt from Old Regret' has to win the respect from the men of the high country to run his fathers farm located near Mt. Kosciusko. After his father's death he is forced to work on the low lands for Harrison whose brother is good friends of Jims. While working on the farm Jim falls in love with Harrison's daughter Jessica. After Harrisons's prize colt has disappeared a roundup of the brumbies in the highlands is going to be conducted with Clancy of the Overflow in the lead.

The movie's cast is well chosen, and all including the animals are superbly directed. The characters are pure Australiana, in many cases warts and all, and are portrayed with sensitivity and perceptiveness. The events are magnificently show-cased by rugged Australia and all are captured with flawless photography. The atmosphere becomes highly charged at times, so the graceful musical score used provides a welcome contrast. For each of these reasons and many more, this movie deserves its enduring place among the great achievements of the 20th century Australian film industry." Both movies are top notch. I like the first one better because in the second his horse gets shot out from under neath him. I miss Kirk Douglas playing Spur
