About this product

Product Information

'Can we doubt ... that individuals having any advantage, however slight, over others, would have the best chance of surviving and of procreating their kind?' In The Origin of Species (1859) Darwin challenged many of the most deeply held beliefs of the Western world. His insistence on the immense length of the past and on the abundance of life-forms, present and extinct, dislodged man from his central position in creation and called into question the role of the Creator. He showed that new species are achieved by natural selection, and that absence of plan is an inherent part of the evolutionary process. The present edition provides a detailed and accessible discussion of his theories and adds an account of the immediate responses to the book on publication.

  • Origin of Species: It's just Dog-Difficult to Read

Darwin's groundbreaking work is itself very difficult to read. It's the kind of book that we all like to own but don't have the determination to actually get through, just because the material is dull and the language is outdated. So, I haven't read it, I just TRIED to read it. So, I recommend you get a "pretty" version, because this is one publication that is just going to sit there on the shelf so you will "look" scholarly. And remember, no matter what, never question evolution.

  • College

I'm starting college in about a week and "on the origin of species" is a required book that i need to have. I've studied charles darwin in psychology and assume that i will really enjoy the book. I don't need it right away. But as soon as possible would be most appreciated.
