Dr Denis Hocking cut up and examined over 35,000 bodies in his 65-year career as a pathologist. Forensic scientist, detective and expert witness - his conclusions had to satisfy judges and juries, and he often held a suspect's fate in his hands. In this book Dr Hocking describes some of the bizarre, tragic and sometimes inexplicable cases he encountered, and looks at horrific areas of human depravity, such as the Giffard case of a son who killed his parents and threw their bodies over a cliff in a wheelbarrow. From poisonings, drownings and mercy-killings, to exhumations and infant deaths, the book offers of wide-ranging study of pathology.
