Weddings Parties Anything presents their second live hits offering with THEY WERE BETTER LIVE featuring 32 tracks. As brilliant as their studio albums were, Weddings, Parties, Anything were never able to capture all their energy on tape. WPA finally got around to releasing a live album after they completed their farewell tour (in fact, the concert documented on this release proved to be their last-ever show). What's puzzling is that the final lineup of the band was in fact their weakest, and it's curious that they didn't choose to release a performance from their peak days instead. Having said that, this is an excellent record, and a fairly good reflection of WPA's live shows. All the "hits" are here (as well as some lesser-known album cuts), and the group is in fine form. The clear highlight is when Paul Kelly joins the band for a magical rendition of his song "Laughing Boy." A nice epitaph to a great band. ~ Aaron Badgley
