Several days later, I was told the seller refused the cancellation. The transaction wouldn't have even hit the seller when I cancelled and should never been processed. Ended up being an enforced purchase as a result and no point in returning it now. I am not an experienced eBay customer so mistakes will happen. Product arrived in good condition and I assume it works.
