Chaplin and his contribution to cinema have passed the test of time, he remains an adored icon even in the 21st century. Transmission Films and Paramount Home Entertainment are proud to present the definitive, fully-restored Chaplin collection. An overworked factory worker suffers a mental breakdown in Modern Times, a comment on the harsh times endured during the Great Depression. With nowhere to sleep after being released from hospital he attempts to get himself arrested and meets a young homeless woman. Together they discover ways to survive in this modern industrialised society. Modern Times is often hailed as one of Chaplins greatest achievements and it remains one of his most popular films. In 1989 it was deemed culturally significant by the Library of Congress and selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry. Fourteen years later, it was screened out of competition at the 2003 Cannes Film Festival.
