About this product

Product Information

Ramp up your computer's performance with an Intel Core 2 Duo E6700 "Conroe" dual-core processor BX80557E6700. The E6700 CPU runs at a clock speed of 2.66 GHz, which is more than adequate for daily tasks like web browsing, emailing, or composing documents. Need to do more than one task at the same time? The E6700 microprocessor is well-suited to multitasking since its two cores can divide the work to keep speeds up and reduce lag time. While you're running a virus scan, playing music, or downloading files in the background, the second core will automatically pick up the slack, so you can dramatically increase the productivity of your computer system. If you need a little more power, it also has limited overclocking abilities. The Core 2 Duo family has been designed from the ground up for desktop computers. The E6700 contains a 1066 MHz full-speed bus (FSB) architecture, which means that the processor can achieve swifter speeds than ever before. Moreover, the cache system has been specifically optimized for a dual-core setup. Intel doubled the amount of L2 cache to 4MB. That means the device can store even more data on the CPU compared with earlier processors in the same family. And thanks to the Intel Wide Dynamic Execution technology, the system actually delivers more instructions per clock cycle, so you're getting a good combination of power and performance. The Core 2 Duo E6700 microprocessor was designed to use power smartly and efficiently. When the CPU is idle, it will enter a conservation mode to save energy without draining too much power from the system. Intel's SpeedStep technology allows the computer to dynamically adjust the processor's voltage and frequency to meet the needs of the software. A variety of other innovative technologies, such as Intel Smart Memory Access, enable the microprocessor to deftly balance the workload by optimizing the use of the available bandwidth, while Intel Digital Media Boost gives you an extra bump in quality when you're enjoying movies, photos, or other media. With Intel's Thermal Monitoring Technologies, the device will constantly monitor the CPU's temperature and keep it stable, even when it's running under a heavy workload. With Intel's virtualization technology, the processor lets you create multiple virtual platforms from a single hardware. Intel has also designed the chip to protect your computer against certain kinds of viruses and malicious attacks. The Core 2 Duo E6700 microprocessor is ideal for budget-conscious consumers who want to add more speed and power to their aging hardware without sacrificing performance and efficiency. The chip was designed to be small, quiet, and energy efficient, even under extreme conditions. It has a Thermal Design Point (TDP) of 65w. This is the average power that the microprocessor dissipates when it's operating at its base frequency. With an LGA775 socket, the E6700 is also compatible with a wide array of motherboard types. And although the Intel Core 2 Duo family of 65nm dual-core processors was designed to work with a 64-bit instruction set, they're also compatible with IA-32 software.

Item arrived quickly and was well packaged. Unfortunately my motherboard would not boot with this CPU so I had to revert to the old CPU.

Processor Upgrade for HP a1767c Media Center

This processor is pretty old as of the time of this review (2/5/20), but according to the motherboard spec for the HP Pavilion a1767c Media Center, is the highest performance processor available. It was used to replace the Intel Core2 Duo E4300 that was originally installed. This upgrade increases clock speed from 1.8GHz to 2.66GHz, L2 cache from 2MB to 4MB, and bus speed from 800MHz to 1066MHz. I didn't do any formal testing, but the "seat of the pants" feel is an overall improvement in performance, for me, most noticeable in video streaming.

  • Core 2 Duo is better than Pentium D. -- period ~;-)

In typical eBay fashion, they ask for an immediate review of a product only just puchased, and then strip away most of the usefulness by not allowing me to discuss the seller, or include the very links that consumers need far more than opinion: Select a processor based upon it's ability to perform the tasks you require w/in the environment you're in ... cold, hard fact. My Pentium D operates at a much higher frequency, and is also dual core, and is 64 bit as well, yet the Core 2 Duo outperforms dramatically in every way, most esp. when multi-tasking, and uses considerably less power (which is the enemy of performance ~;-) Costs 2~3 times the money, but at a time when my old processor can be found on here for ten bucks ... the savings on my electric bill will pay me back the difference ...

  • Fast Older Duo

This was the best CPU for the HP Compaq DC5700 Microtower. Upgraded from a E6400 2.13 GHz, 2 MB L2 cache. The additional 500 - 600 GHz clock speeds make a huge difference and with the 4 MB L2 cache, Windows 10 runs stable with 8 GB and a dedicated PCI (NOT EXPRESS) GPU. Video streaming over Plex, Utube or Netflix runs smooth.

  • cheap upgrade for relative old computer, giving it new life & performance

Upgrading CPU to this one had allowed me to use 64-bit virtualization on my relatively old HP Pavilion a6220.cs. Corresponding the Wintel politics the MS Windows 8.1 Hyper-V virtualization, of course, does not support this (7-years old very outdated:) CPU to serve virtual machine. Everyone knows it, just MS-wintel not (no averse to, disappointment only), therefore i successfully use 3-rd party software VMWARE and/or Virtualbox. I also changed the SATA hdd mode to AHCI - needed for virtualbox (search in browser for 'How can i make IDE to AHCI in windows 8'). Enlarging system RAM greatly assist the operation of virtualization - I recommend upgrade to 3-4 GB RAM (China is cheap) Do not forget set the number of cores to 2 for performance of VMWARE, in Virtualbox you do not care about it (in ...
