Nevil Shutes 1957 novel, "On The Beach" is almost faultlessly transferred to the silver screen in the 1959 film of the same name. The plot is brilliant and the film presents us with all of the pertinent facets of the original book with a few instances of embellishment and adjustment that definitely leave the story well intact. If you are looking for a happy ending, this is not the film or book for you but If you are looking for drama and a dash of romance, overlayed upon a background of constant suspense, all being played out in, what in 1959, was a future world, you will be well pleased with "On The Beach". The hypothetical scenario that is the backbone of this film is still a possibility today so the dark suspense holds a current sense of reality. It gets you thinking.

Modern take on the fifties version of the same name. This one is well acted, has an interesting more modern approach to "the end of the world". Worth watching.
