All in all this is a good abrasive steel. Fine enough to be a clear step up from most diamond steels but not so fine that you couldn't use it to raise a burr, and much more durable than most ceramic steels, which will shatter at the drop of a hat. It's also nicely balanced and the handle is very comfortable. But the plastic cap on the end is an awful from an ergonomic standpoint as you have to be very careful if honing edge-first not to snag the burr on it. There's no good reason for it to be there. Also the ridged surfaces on the sides are not needed and simply make it harder to clean. By no means does this make it useless. I just hope future models ditch these things as they will be much easier to use.

Very easy to produce a very sharp edge. Ridged file shape on the flat for dull edges, rounded sides are smooth for fine finishing. Touched up the edges on all kitchen knives and three swords in 20 minutes.

Good quality. Helps keep a razor edge with minimal effort. Only suggestion would be to package in something more sturdy as mine arrived badly bent...
