Excellent value and the sound I was looking for. It has that 'vintage' 50s tube sound with just enough distortion for Blues, Country and Rock. The distortion is more 'natural' like a tube amp going nicely into distortion. I had a well known brand distortion pedal which worked well but was over the top even at lower settings. It was better for hard rock or metal. The JF01 is affordable and just like a classic brand of 'Tube Screamer'.

As you probably already know, the Joyo JF-01 Vintage Overdrive is a cheap replica of a Tubescreamer. But in this case, cheap doesn’t mean inferior. This pedal is solidly built and sounds great. I experimented with different settings and found that with Drive and Volume at 6 (out of an imaginary 10), and Tone at 4, I get a classic 70s rock sound, with sustain for miles. This is using humbuckers into a valve amp (Vox AC-10). It’s quite a mellow overdrive sound, that helps my guitar sing, and takes the sometimes-shrieky edge off the AC-10. The only downside is the colour scheme. The yellow knobs look awful. If you want to pay four times as much you’ll get a nicer looking pedal, but it won’t sound any better.

Great pedal. Does the Ibanez.808 thing and actually sounds better than some of the reissues. Every TS pedal.is slightly different, but the QC, consistency, low price and *frequency response* of the Joyo Vintage Overdrive makes it a winner. Either as a clean boost, mid-hump boost, or lo-gain overdrive: it performs very well. Buy two and stack them!
