While I'm not the type to upgrade my computer at every opportunity, so I have little to compare against, I built a system with the i7-8700 that should be able to cope with the current suite of CAD software for small business owners - 16gb DDR4 RAM, 6gb GTX1060 video card and a 1tb SSD. The processor is definitely quick and up to the challenge, but using the diagnostic software that came with it and the motherboard, I saw it getting up to temperatures of 90 degrees celsius when pushed to its limit. The standard fan that comes with it would therefore seem a little inadequate, which really is unacceptable. In the end, if you're upgrading, then what better option to upgrade than the latest Intel chip, right?! So in my opinion the i7-8700 definitely packs a punch, works well and is fast, but when all 6 cores are being pushed to their limit it gets incredibly hot - something which needs to be managed. For ordinary and intermediate use though, it's definitely more than capable!Read full review
