I was led to believe this was a solar only unit per the advertisement Once I received it, the booklet stated it required power. If it was to run on solar only, I had to buy higher amp batteries and another 20w panel. Therefore, budget an additional $200 to be solar only gate. The solar controller is very poor. It blew up 3 weeks in so I purchase a better controller. Been good so far.

The description on the title of this item is “solar powered gate opener”. It would be better described as “mains powered gate opener with solar backup” . The solar panel and batteries are too small for everyday use as stated on the last page of the installation manual. Not sure of quality as has not been installed yet. Will become a huge job running mains power to the gate.
