The 12 oz. Estwing hammer is AWESOME!! I've had my 16 oz Estwing for over 30 years and still use it all the time. But with age (mine, not the hammers!) it has become less practical for my wrist, etc. The 12 oz. is perfect, and with the same solid shaft that is so rugged that you can't destroy it and almost can't hurt it either. Both 12 and 16 are perfectly balanced and fit my hand like a glove. Having something lighter actually works better most of the time. I also like the straight claw as opposed to the curved claw--which is why I had to buy it online. Stores don't handle this. It was more expensive than the curved claw model in the store, but worth the extra money spent. Estwing is the most expensive hammer, but the quality and durability make all the difference!

First go to the store and try all kind of weights 8 oz to 24 or up. For me 12oz was the best in my hand and I did a great job with it. Didn't tire my hand

I like the straighter claw, great quality, would be better at £20 rather than £30.
