I got two of these on special for around $50ea. For the price they work great on planes (much better than the airline supplied ones. I flew emirates so one must assume they are better than most) which is their actual purpose - cancelling out low frequency noise. A travel case would have been handy as well. When listening to music from my phone they perform better when switched on (active) compared to my iPhone or samsung ear-bud style headphones. When switched off (inactive) sound quality is poor to say the least. This essentially renders them only to be used when powered by the 1x aaa battery. So if you don't mind going through a battery or so per wk, this is for me $50 well spent. Obviousily, should you spend more $'s, your would get a superior product.

Bad features: - unsatisfactory active noise cancelling feature however is decent for its price - Make sure you don't confuse passive with active noise cancelling. Active only cancels repetitive sounds. - Made of flimsy plastic - sound is trashy if the active noise cancelling feature is not turned on however is good when turned on. - lightweight - Sound leakage - may not want to wear these on public transport. Good features - good for its cheap price - I cannot believe that the full retail price from Sony is $130!! there is no way these headphones are that good. Definitely do not want to pay more than $60 for these headphones. - good battery life Personally, these headphones do not meet my standards.

I found the headphons excepitional, especally considering the price point. I would have to spend a lot more money, like $400 plus to better the quality. They are comfterable to wear for long perioda at a time. The nois cancellation feature is not perfect, however, on a long drive in a car, it is more than adequate cutting out 90% of the background noise. You can still hear when someone needs to speak to you, which is not a bad idea. I recomend this produce who does not need bluetooth. In all way's, it is as good as other products twice the price, sometimes more. I am a musician, & I find the quality of these headphones much better than i ever expected!

Disclaimer first. I am very picky about sound quality. The nearest comparison headphones I have for this review are low-end audiophile stuff, so direct comparison on sound reproduction is not really fair. When the review question "Is the sound quality good?" says "No" that reflects my expectation for what they should have been at full suggested retail price compared to other brands at a similar price point, but remember, I got them for much less. If there was a middle option of "acceptable" then that would fit better. I've always personally found the sound from budget Japanese headphones muddy or lacking crispness and sometimes both. If I had paid full retail price for these I would have returned them. At a budget price of <$50 they're ok for those times when there is way too much background non-vocal noise. Active noise cancelling headphones always seem to have some trade-offs. With the noise cancelling turned off they sound slightly dull but are listenable. With it turned on, the reduction in noise is clearly noticeable. Unfortunately one of the reasons I bought them was that in cubicle farms noisy neighbours are a constant problem. One guess what these headphones do not really filter out at all ? The shouting and loud talkers barely get muffled, certainly not enough to put up with the drop in sound quality from my perspective. Sound quality is obviously subjective and some people would find them "ok". Something not often mentioned in noise-cancelling headphone reviews is the unnatural effect the behaviour of the headphones can have on your inner ear. This is not unique to these units and even the premium stuff from the headphone specialist manufacturers exhibit this to varying degrees. SOME people may experience nausea and other side-effects after prolonged wearing of them, especially in relatively quiet environments (and I don't know why that is). Some reviewers may mention things like the "breathing effect" which is of a similar origin. Comfort for headphones can be a problem, especially for prolonged use (think "full work day"). For example I cannot wear buds at all and on-ear headphones give me a headache, so generally I'd buy the variety that make a nice soft pad on the skull leaving the ear alone. These are on-ear variety but with adjustment and for short periods (a couple of hours) they sit comfortably and don't place excessive pressure on the ear. If you sweat a lot and are not in an air-conditioned place, you may need to rethink. Having worked in an office inside a machine shop I can say that I wish I had these back then. For minimising noise from office machinery, outside noise (our office is beside a CBD rail line!) and street noise they do muffle it enough to mentally block out the rest. In short, if you need something to help you shut out the general noise around you for short periods and you can get these on discount and you are not used to high-end audio gear, then these may fit your needs. Yes, I have recommended these to a friend. Read full review

I was really surprised by these headphones. I thought due to the low price I wouldn't be getting a quality product, but I was mistaken. These headphones have great sound quality, an excellent noise cancellation feature and are easy to fold away. I would highly recommend this product. Great value for money!

If you are traveling long distance in an airliner, these headphones will make life a lot more bearable. When you turn them on don't expect the world to go silent. It wont. But they do make it a lot quieter, and they especially eliminate the roar that you get with plane travel. If you watch movies during your flight, its just like being in a theater, you hear nothing but the soundtrack. If you just want peace while flying, turn them on and you will be in bliss. You can still hear what is happening around you, but at a vastly reduced level. The bottom line is after untold hours of travel you get to where you are going feeling a whole heap better than you used to before you discovered these headphones. I highly recommend them.

These headphones are very comfortable, really cancel out the noise, and work well with my Samsung mobile phone

Sound quality is good for the price. I have not used noise cancelling headphones before, but I expected a better effect than these headphones provide. Although I did notice a difference when the noise cancelling is turned on, it was that noticeable.

I was expecting something I'd use only for flights but i am taking them everywhere : public transport, work, library. Good investment.

These make decent cans for my E drums. There's good solid bass when they're switched on, and the highs aren't too bad. Mid range is where these really suffer though. Not a bad purchase for the $40 I paid for them though.
