The washing machine let me know that it was in need of a fix when it started to jump about on the spin cycle and then shut off with a message that the load was out of balance. It got to the point where several attempts to even out the load still failed to keep it happy. A quick search of the net disclosed this to be a common problem with the suspension system losing its dampening effect. Replacing the suspension rods fixed the problem and was easy to do. Make sure you get the replacement rods from Fisher & Paykel as I was advised that generic replacements don't work as well.

These rods give it after 2 or 3 years with the machine giving out of balance errors, then banging on heavy loads. It's useful to be able to replace them rather than the whole machine. These rods do the trick, simple to replace. Just look on YouTube. Mind you, should these parts last longer on the first place? Yes. But these work and are relatively easy to replace.

Apparently these are the most common point of failure for Fisher Paykel Aquasmart washing machines. Thanks to a guide on ifixit.com, I fixed our horrendously banging and bouncing Aquasmart in about 15min. Easy, simple fix and the washing machine has since done 6 loads back to back without any banging at all. Recommended easy fix for anyone and saves an expensive call out fee for a repair person.
