I had a professional computer person tested this "new" hard drive and found it was actually second hand and had something on it that rendered it unusable. What do I do? Just wear the cost and be ripped off?

A good reliable hard drive suitable for an older laptop. Not as fast as an SSD, so it won't suit the latest laptops, but quite adequate for an older laptop.
