When a man, beaten and bloody, stumbles into Charlotte's law office, she discovers that he has amnesia. She takes him in as a guest, hoping that his memory will recover as his wounds heal. Time moves on and she finds herself more attracted to this kind stranger, who she calls 'Gabriel'. When it turns out that he sustained his injuries after saving a woman's life, she can't help but fall in love with him. But that all changes when Gabriel's wife arrives, followed later by another woman also claiming to be his wife. 'Gabriel' is put on trial for bigamy and Charlotte, still believing in the man she loves, chooses to defend him.
