The book starts off at an introductory level to electronics and moves onto deeper topics. Each topic is approached at a summary type of level rather than the kind of approach you get at university. It provides a good snapshot across many fields of electronics and has a real person perspective, not an academic perspective. I enjoyed the commentary about how hard it is for hobbyists from years ago to 'prototype' with todays (SMD), electronic devices. The examples are worked using maths skills that I can still use, helps the enthusiasm. I want to find the older publications since they cover the older electronic devices that I was introduced to when I started in the industry. I am excited about the book after only having glossed over from cover to cover and having worked through a few sections in detail. I recommend the book.Read full review

I have not read through this book yet, but what I have read through is interesting, accurate, well explained and enjoyable. Everything is explained in plain English for the hobbyists, but also has more in-depth knowledge that is accessible to the more academically minded. No lack of illustrations for the visually minded and no lack of maths for the boffins. It approaches electronics from a practical involvement angle, which seems the most sensible way to learn it. Great projects, excellent explanations of how things work, and best of all: fun :)
