For years I've liked drinking sparkling mineral water and always felt a bit guilty at buying those glass bottles (even though I did recycle them). It was an expensive habit and one day i decided to check out Soda Stream. I dont like sweetened water so I was solely after a system that could replace my addiction to bottled mineral water. A friend told me she had a Soda Stream and that it produced sparkling water just like the bottled variety. I bought the Soda Stream Power model... came with a 900 ml plastic bottle, a gas cylinder and a pretty smart looking unit in glossy black and shiny chrome. I opted for the powered model because it seemed to be a more precise approach to injecting C02 into the water than than unpowered hand press version. I've had the unit for about two weeks, made about 10 bottles of sparkling water are have the following comments: - its very simple to operate - there are three "intensities" of CO2 injection and I've opted for the middle one (almost identical to the "fizz" in my Schweppes mineral water bottles) - the unit has a very small footprint so its unobtrusive on the kitchen benchtop - the bottle maintains the carbonation in the water remarkably well - its a breeze to operate and very very fast (I fill the water bottle with chilled water from my fridge dispenser) and just inject the CO2 - regular old Melbourne tap water makes a perfect sparkling water (again on a par with the bottled Schweppes version) Havent had to switch CO2 cylinder yet but already know of various retailers who swap over cylinders. Overall .. very happy with quality of sparkling water and feel virtuous for reducing my ecological footprint ... not to mention the money saved by not buying bottled mineral water any more :) :) Read full review
