Older models were good for 10 years. This one doesn't function on the temperature scale.
Meter works well NOW. ON/Off switch was sticking to the front decal and would not let it turn off. I cleared this with a box cutter and now it works as it should. I have had several of these meters before - they work well but after 10 years they will not turn on. You can flush the switch with aerosol, put in really new batteries - I even replaced the switch! The display flashes when you push the switch ON, but immediately disappears. I suspect a capacitor in the circuit is leaky but without a circuit I have had to throw my others out. I had 3 for my science program to the Outback and they all died within a month of each other. Still, I got 10 years out of them and I expect that the average person will accidentally damage them in less than this time by mechanical or electrical mistreatment. Worth buying. Well, I thought so - until I tried to use the temperature function. Absolutely no response. All the others I had worked but this one doesn't. I guess I will have to send it back and hope that the next one works.Read full review
