A right angle plug takes up less space directly out of the socket and is more susceptible to being bumped. The right angle plug directs the wires away from the socket. In my case, it's the perfect solution. My motorcycle socket is fitted into the side of the bike. Having the cable running downwards prevents the quality plug being bumped and possibly broken.

The right angle makes it very useful in tight spaces. The hole for the power cord was too small to accept the manufactures supplied power cord to my fridge. the screws to fasten the wires into the terminals should be Phillips head, quite difficult to assemble as supplied.

I own a European motorcycle that has two 12V outlets needing the Merit plug. Being a right angle is more useful because it takes the cable at a better angle to applicances that plug into the outlets. Not an easy item to find, but very useful.
