Good budget stone, performs well
Edit: After gaining more experience with stones from well-known Japanese manufacturers (King, Suehiro, Shapton), I realised that the grit rating of this stone is too high. The actual grit is about 20% coarser than normal. If you are looking for a budget stone, I recommend the King KDS. It is larger and true to grit, and is better value. ---- Good stone. It cuts well, and the grit size seems to match stones with the same grit from other manufacturers. I had no problems putting a razor edge on a handful of knives with it. The bamboo base works well; it holds the stone firmly and does not slip. Forget about the angle guide. It gets in the way and may scratch the sides of the blade. The stone is quite soft on both sides and dishes out fairly quickly. On the upside, you get a good slurry; on the downside, you need to flatten the stone more often, Still, given the price, this stone is good value. Unless you sharpen a lot (as in, a LOT), this is just fine for a kitchen with a bunch of knives that you need to sharpen a few times a year.Read full review

After using a course stone. Using this one after gives a great finish on the edge ensuring my knife stays sharp for longer before I have to straighten it with a steel.

With work it sharpens knives so well.
Always disappointed with knife sharpeners on the market so I thought I'd try the more traditional way of sharpening. Yes it takes more time but even on my first try I achieved better results than before. I anticipate getting better at it.

Quality at an excellent price.
Cheap compared to other similar items. The rubber non-slip base is excellent. For 5 star review it needs an oil-proof container to store...I would have been happy to pay more for a container. The stone does exactly as expected with no fuss.
