PH test colour is very hard to match to the chart. The previous brand I used was much easier. And why am I paying for a high range PH tester as well as a normal PH tester? Surely everyone just ends up paying for one useless chemical. Maybe it's just a few bucks in the states, but here it's much more significant. Over time it'll really add up. I'm only guessing, but I reckon the high range tester is much less common. Maybe it can be bought separately? There will still be wastage, but less of it. Perhaps there can be two different versions of the freshwater kit... but then again, that may add cost too.

Accurate Monitoring of pH, Ammonia, Nitrite & Nitrate, but since pH requires 3 drops, Ammonia 1 & 2 8 drops each, Nitrite 5 drops and Nitrate 1 & 2 use 10 & 10, they all run out at different times, requiring another kit when 3-4 bottles are still operational from the previous kit. They ought to diversify the bottle size to facilitate a smooth transition from one box kit to another. I, for example, now have 3 kits: the 1st still has pH and Nitrite bottles; the 2nd has pH, Ammonia 1 & 2, Nitrite and Nitrate (bottle 2); and the 3rd new kit has all of them...It becomes a bit tedious trying to use up the original bottles, whilst needing to use 3 different kits to finish off what's left from the "originals"... Also, my last kit came with a spillage from the Ammonia 1 bottle, as they didn't install any polystyrene bottle holder placement lid inside the kit lid - so all the bottles were strewn around the container, with some of the Ammonia chemical spilled on the label and instruction booklet: disappointing downgrade in packaging. I think, because the test tube bottles were taller, so could no longer accommodate the polystyrene fitting above the test tubes... Frustrating and messy!Read full review

Would be really good if the tests that require larger quantities of chemicals came in larger bottles or had extra bottles included. I expect I'll run out of things at different times. The tests work well and the charts are easy enough to read. After washing the test tubes out I feel inclined to leave the lids off to let the remaining water evaporate, but I fear I'll lose the little plastic lids.

Great product to have in helping to maintain healthy chemical levels in your fresh water aquarium . Very easy to use and cheaper to buy as a kit than to buy tester bottles individually. Only downside for me is I have no use for the High Range PH tester, but overall still good value for the price of the API Master Test Kit.

Great all rounder with test tubes. Instructions are simple and clear. If API would also include their water hardness test kits (for GH & KH) with this kit, then it will be excellent. This kit is particularly suited for tank cycling, I'd say, because the kit tests for Ammonia, Nitrite & Nitrate levels. It also includes a comprehensive range tester for Ph levels.
