For a Micro SD card reader, this is one of the smaller varieties as can be seen. Also worth mentioning, is the absence of any cap or lanyard hole. Yes, these features (and absence of) are clearly visible but may nevertheless be missed. It is very lightly but adequate built. Its plastic shell is of the more brittle kind. If stood on with leather shoes on concrete, it will likely break rather than squish, deform and possibly survuve. This is a USB 3 device and in my read/write tests against a USB2 device, it was almost 30% faster writing but several times faster on the reading. So well worth the USB 2 to 3, upgrade if read speed is important to you (and why not).

This little gadget works a treat. It does precisely what it promises. Literally as easy as slotting the MicroSD card into the adapter, popping the adapter into your USB and Bob's your uncle. There really is nothing more to it. Windows reads it fine as a USB drive, speedy and responsive. Great value for money and very handy if you just want to get that data off your MicroSD card.

PROS: - The stated 170MB/s max transfer speed seems to be legit (at least it was on my SanDisk Extreme) CONS: - Only managed to get 90MB/s from my Samsung Evo (was expecting higher, see below*) - You will need a hard drive capable of writing at 170MB/s in your PC to get the full benefit (E.G. nearly all SSDs) MORE INFO: *Both my Samsung Evo and SanDisk Extreme are rated UHS Class 3 (U3) and are both capable of writing 4K video. I was hence expecting similar performance from the "MobileMate", but I only got the SanDisk brand Micro SD card to transfer at close to the 170MB/s max transfer speed. Not sure why the Samsung Evo capped out at 90MB/s without doing further testing/research. CONCLUSION: I bought the ‘MobileMate’ for AUD $15, which is relatively expensive for a Micro SD card reader (you can get them for as little as AUD $1.10). But I wouldn’t trust the cheap card readers with my data as I’ve experienced them corrupting the file system in the past and it required a complete format of the card to make it usable again. $15 honestly doesn’t seem that much to spend to get something that seems to work reliably with great performance. I have used so many dodgy card readers for my dashcam that I almost gave up. This one works great.

It's a quality MicroSD card reader from a very reputable brand. You could get cheap knock offs for less money, but this reader actually gets reliably fast transfer speeds. I can't vouch for durability yet as I got mine recently and haven't used it much yet, but the build quality feels very solid and if it's anything like the previous version Sandisk made, it'll last very well.
