I have a few Lego city trains and without them , the Lego sets are just that, sets but, these trains tie everything together just nicely no matter what set or sets ,you have. This is a great starter or add-on set for the price. The platform that comes with the set is very basic. and it comes with just enough track to make a circuit. But I really love the new Bluetooth Controller and Smartphone Compatibility. If you're only ever going to buy one Lego train set, this wouldn't be it. But we have a few older sets and this is a great addition.
