Father Ted's writers use many of their major comedic influences (Seinfeld, Simpsons etc) to cleverly reconstruct the stale half-hour sitcom format into something fresh, zany, deliciously irreligious, and just plain FUNNY. The cast, all extremely talented and versatile, deliver the Irish Catholic clergy- based storylines together in a hugely entertaining way. They even helped create several catchphrases that persist to the present day, largely due to the series' large fan base who still still meet up annually at their TEDFEST. If you've never heard of FATHER TED, do yourself a favour, get yourself a copy and enjoy; you're in for a treat.
