It is very very quiet. I have found that taking the spray bar off and having it submerged in the water is far me quieter and just as effective. I clean the sponge on a fortnightly basis and this keeps the tank beautiful. Easy to pull apart for cleaning. You could also add filter wool with charcoal or bio beads if you particularly want, but I have found the sponge is just as effective.
