The original The OEM part is not robust enough in its design. Due to environmental contamination, the latch clogs and degrades, parts bend and the cable stretches. The mechanism only has an 8 year lifespan.

My dealer put in an aftermarket assembly after many washouts of the old OEM assembly and 5 years later the aftermarket wore out to just barely working at all and causing the other problems like the door handle lever breaking off or bending out of whack. This works smooth feels new opens at the slightest of pulls and even my 4 year old can now open the rear door which was unimaginable!!
