All in all a good and solid prime lens, takes a sharp and clear pictures. The focus ring can be used no matter if it's set to manual or auto focus, and this will not damage the focus plates, unlike on other lenses such as the 50mm 1.8. One downside to the lens is the amount of noise it makes (sounds like a large bee) so its not very suitable for video, unless our prepared to use manual focus, which because of the large focus ring is very easy to use! This lens is very practical and i find myself using it more and more, especially for portrait use. I've been using it a lot more in night clubs and live bands as i feel it captures more then the 50mm which can be abit tight. I would recommend shopping around as the lens can be some what pricey from the result!
whatever reviews you hear about this lens online is most likely true. quality - get what you paid for. pretty clear close enough to 50mm f.4. just with the wide angle. sound on auto focus is loud but who cares. overall i suggest you buy one, worth it.
Overall a fantastic lens for its price

Great lens, extremely sharp, fast, small - everything it's supposed to be. Haven't had a chance to take it out for extensive shooting yet (will be taking it on an indochina trip later this year though) but I'm looking forward to using it after looking at the few photos i snapped. Its size makes it perfect as a walk around lens/travel lens (for those who love primes) and the focal length as far as I can see is MUCH more comfortable and natural than the 50mm on a crop body. Yes it's a little noisy but all the pros outweigh this. Can;t really see paying that much extra $$$ for USM either, considering how good this lens is. Really glad I added this to my kit!!
