Platform Car Rack 4 Bike Carrier Bicycle with Turning Lights Tilting
15 September 2019
Its okay but not as easy to use as some others
I've had a few bike carriers over the years, including platform carriers. I'm torn about this one. It does what it says it will and it is a great price, but I believe you get what you pay for... I was hoping for more. Apart from being a bit of a pain to assemble, the quality of the arms and jaws feels a bit cheap. The way they clamp also makes it very difficult to fit across, between and in amongst a stack of bikes. I made it work with a fair bit of tweaking but I wish I had have spent the extra couple of hundred dollars now and just got an easier system. I had to angle almost all the arms and then fit the jaws up the sides to be able to secure the bikes. Mine also came with locks on the jaws but none of them actually disengage the handle so it's kind of pointless... I don't want to be too harsh because it does come with a light bar as well and at this price that's good value, but not all the globes are working and it's a bit of a jigsaw puzzle working out which adapters to use. You will also need cable ties (Not included) for the wires. As for the fold down mechanism, this is a great addition, but it's hard to reach the lever and when you do, the whole rack collapses onto you as you're basically under it to activate abd the weight if the bikes makes it crash down. Would I recommend it, yes on a budget as it will do the job, however expect to take time setting it up and getting used to using it. I'm yet to take it for a drive so I can't comment yet on whether it will swivel on the tow ball. Cheers 👍
