Morty’s sex-bot originator
Well; not the ‘sex-bot’; but whete Rick&Summer end up is an homage to ZARDOZ. Had a long discourse that just disappeared; so ..... YES; this is the cult 1973 Connery dystopian Psychic Elites + Procreative Serfs & Celibate Warrior-Initiates that gather the weapons that vomit out of the ‘Gods’ mouth; killing the lesser breeders & acting-out similar to the Mongol Hordes in our past.
Connery stowaways into the Elites lands. They are psychic; high-tech users whilst also communist-agrarian & essentially immortal. This has lead to an increase in ennui; old age with madness in some; slow suicidal freezing in others. They are declining in contentment & happiness, causing aggressive outbursts where peace&harmony once reigned.
Connery becomes their NATURAL SAVAGE; allowed to roam/explore/plant seeds of discontent and communicate by sign language with his peers on the other side of the invisible barrier that seperate the two realms.
Eventually it is discovered that he may be the product of specific breeding & evolution. That he’s more intelligent & dangerous than previously thought.
Connery rapes a female scientist; ‘sex/intimacy’ being considered ABOMINATION by he&his fellow Warriors.
ZARDOZ is an early example of the dystopian; future theorising; intelligent and finally with examples like MAD MAX & THE TERMINATOR - sequel spawning - Sci-Fi that was unnerving and not beholden to the ‘Industry Blandness + Propagandist’ model that eventually became standard.
THIS Blu-Ray edition has fantastic extras that (as far as I could discern) are incredibly hard to find on DVD. The promised booklet must be a PDF; along with interviews and production drawings &stills.
I am waiting for a plug&play Blu-Ray/4K player to finally stop being a “WISH” 😉 and arrive. Even my Korean&Chinese pre-COVID orders are in transit!
Either way : YES!!! Totally recommend for the ‘committed geek’ that sometimes appreciate Commentaries’ more than the movie itself. Like the Imperial Edition Of CALIGULA; recently delivered and proving a Horn Of Plenty with the bountiful extras.
This IS Connery as BRUTE; rather than dapper secret-agent he more popularly remembered as. Dead-Eyed; Plotting and with Agenda Unkown - though from memory; it ends with him as Uneducated Child : unsure&threatened by LIFE far outside his limited parameters. Destructive; Lost; in
an Existential Crisis he has to defeat. Becoming something he abhorred & destroyed at the beginning.
