Cardcaptor Sakura - The Movie (DVD, 1999)
11 January 2024
A side adventure to Season One,but a worthwhile one for fans!
Having seen the 70 episode english dub of "Cardcaptors",I was surprised to learn of the couple of "movie" episodes which I never saw on TV at the time. Still catching up with a english subtitled adaption of the original version yet. Anyways, this particular movie length episode is seemingly timed part way through season 1 when both Sakura & Lee were competing/coperating in the capture of the original "missing" Clow Cards. It's probably most notable for getting at glimpse at the introverted Lee's family home life with a rare appearance of his mother who is quite gifted in magical ability herself as per his families link to Clow Reed. But with the climax of Season 1 & then the reveal of Season's 2 main plot to come, this movie serves to give a little tease into the past life of Clow Reed. The ending is convenient but necessary if you're a fan of the series & worth tracking down if you've never seen it.
THE GOODIES THE COMPLETE BBC Series COLLECTION DVD BOXSET 12 DISCS REGION 4 New

"Listen to Radio Goodies!!!!....Boom!"
Although as far as effort goes, the BBC could've delivered far more...no remastered footage, or extras like episode commentaries etc, offered in previous Goodies compilations, this does at least offer the full original BBC run of this immortal comedy team. Much like Monty Python, you need to be a fan of the era. Politically incorrect by today's standard's but much like the Monty Python team, Tim, Graeme & Bill weren't afraid to gently (& sometimes not so gently),subtly prod the culture of the era with their own funny brand & unwittingly find a younger Australian audience alongside it's adult one! Great seeing episodes like Snooze after so many years, alongside classics like The Jolly Rock Lighthouse, Gotta Be String, Ecky Thump, Cecily, & Radio Goodies, & more! Also subtle nods to pop culture of the era like Watership Down & Close Encounters of the Third Kind! If you're a fan of the show, very much a must buy so no matter what modern streaming platforms choose to avoid, you can enjoy a classic series.😁 Last but not least, thank goodness this compatible with Region 4 DVD players & not just Region 2,yay!

Awesome 70's Series well worth the revisit!
Whilst some of the dialogue & interactions may not be to "modern" audience standards ,it's rather surprising watching it with adult eyes (rather than the occasional repeats I saw as a child),the subject matter Emergency was prepared to tackle in its time. They conveyed the feel of how their Fire Rescue teams operated so well,& came as no surprise to learn later certain cast members of the mythical "Station 51",were real life Firemen. Likewise though, you'd have the by-play of events in between at Rampart with hints of their off-duty lives but never becoming the focus, with that firmly being on the rescues Hadn't seen the series Down Under in many years & given it's age, unlikely to ever be picked up by local streaming services more's the pity. Despite it only being available as a Region 1 import & relies on one of my ageing multi region dvd player's,it's still far more watchable for me than modern alternatives with over the top CGI or situations. Well worth the import buy! .👍😃
