Garmin Etrex 10
30 December 2016
Design could be better
0 of 1 found this helpful Have only used this a few times. Had the old etrex (yellow) previously. This maybe more accurate but the button on the front (cursor one) is a bad design as it protrudes out a few mm past rest of unit gets bumped whist in your pocket (and you push it in to use it).
Not sure how to lock it but unit was doing all sorts of things that I did not want to do because I was accidentally pushing the button whist walking.
I also have a 64s which is much bigger and more expensive that I use for work. (I bought Etrex 10 t to carry around for geotagging when taking photos as battery lasts longer and unit is smaller so I thought I would just put it on and leave it in my camera bags front pocket- out of sight) but I am now using the 64s in preference (clipped to waist). .
4in1 Micro USB Type C OTG TF Card Reader for IOS iPhone Android Samsung

Really convenient - really easy - no itunes anymore!
Pros:
1) so easy to use. Don't need to use itunes anymore for file transfer. Just plug it in, select iphone, select 'edit' , tap the pictures you want, select copy, select usb, make folder, paste.
2) super fast (as fast as airdrop)
3) takes any mirco usb. Really cleaver how it fits inside USB fitting!! Have tried 64G and 128G and both work fine.
4) means can easily increase storage capacity of iphone at cheap price - just offload older photos to usb
5) can use on android phones as well? (have not tried)
Cons:
1) I don't know how to group select photos and is pain to have to tap each one. maybe user stupidity?
2) does not work in my older computer (even in usb3 drive). But take micro sd card out and read with card reader in same computer and it is fine.

Second hand units are bargain price for field computers.
I got this for using with Oziexplorer moving maps. I have version of CF19 with tablet XP and inbuilt GPS but it is fairly useless inside a car as you have to hold the antennae next to the window all the time or it loses fix. Got a USB mouse antennae and this now works great (but need to have usb port cover open so not waterproof when using it). I also have problems with USB mouse GPS upsetting internal unit (it wont lock on properly or quickly after mouse GPS installed).
I like the handwriting recognition in XP tablet and find it much easier to enter file names, descriptions etc with that than by using the screen keypad (which is nearly impossible if in a moving car offroad). I also have the waterproof backlight keypad. This is better for entering longer text if screen is not setup as a tablet. The waterproof keypad is however very stiff to type on and is not the sort of thing you would write essays with.
Good for field work. Have not tried dropping yet but have got rained on and Ok.
quite capable (office, arcview 9.3, ozi etc run ok on it with 4g Ram). Much quicker than Yuma we have at work and screen better but yuma goes all day and night on a battery set (3 or 4 x as long as CF19)
rotational screen button great as can get antennae next to window of car , large screen great for ozi maps.
lots of secondhand ones for bargain prices ($500-$1000).
Tiltable screen good for adjusting viewing angle when its on passangers set in car and you want to read it from drivers seat.
Dislikes
mouse pad is very hard to use (need to press hard),
rubberised keypad also hard to use (also stiff)
Unit is qite heavy to bushwalk with and only get 4hrs or so with it, Also gets very hot at base.
